Metal Platform Bed
How To Create The Perfect Room Around Your Metal Platform Bed
The platform bed is experiencing a spectacular revival. Traditionally platform beds were made from wood, but our desire for a streamlined chic look has catapulted the metals platform bed into the front of our shop displays.
What makes the metal platform bed so popular?
Unlike the wooden platform beds which usually consist of a solid or slated wooden base upon which a mattress sits; the metal platform bed is a very different design. The frame is usually highly stylised and metal. Across the frame and holding the mattress will be traditional wooden slates, so it is not a direct swap of wood for metal.
How is a metal platform bed different from a standard metal bed frame?
The difference primarily comes down to the foot of the bed. A day bed will have three sides, a header and footer and a side to make is more like a sofa. A standard bed will usually have a headboard and something at the foot, this is often quite low, but still an intrinsic part of the design. The metal platform bed will have a base, platform, and a headboard.
As with all platform beds it is important to invest not just in the frame, but also in the mattress. The mattress supports are quite stiff as they are made of wood and not a sprung base, so if you get a cheap mattress it has potential to be a very uncomfortable nights sleep.
The mattress on a metal platform bed is also more visible as there is not a surround into which it sits, it will lie on top of the platform, so it is also worth getting a reasonably deep mattress as it will create a better look for the room.
If you have chosen a metal platform bed you may need to reconsider the other furniture in the room. Due to the highly stylised designs of these beds it is often best to keep the rest of the furniture in the room quite basic. Fitted wardrobes can be a good way to keep the room looking simple and stylish. Another option is to have painted wooden furniture which will compliment the bed without matching and overpowering it.
The final aspect to consider for your metal platform bed is the bed linen. In highly stylised rooms it can be easy to end up with a room which is a little impersonally, so try to choose some striking and colourful bed linen to keep the room looking cheerful.
